To this stranger,
On this construction site, he operates his sort of steamroller. The asphalt has just been laid. Toxic fumes surround him, rising like serpents from the scorching ground. I imagine him going home, his lungs and eyes burning from the foul, noxious fumes he no doubt breathes in day after day.
And yet, this man doing hard labor takes the time to catch my eye.
Three and a half seconds.
A moment of silence.
The sun shields him from its rays.
He offers me a smile.
Sincere
Selfless
Containing all the goodness of the universe
A gift, a source of strength.
A little bit of life
A little bit of hope
A little bit of love
Three and a half seconds.
So short and yet so long.
In the silence and through his simple presence, he whispers to me:
You can do this!
You can do this with a smile on your face.
Keep your spirits up.
With a fire in your heart
With kindness and tenderness
With respect for others and for yourself
You will find the path.
That will bring you back to yourself, to your presence, to your love, to your compassion, to your innocence, to your strength, and to your life force.
Three and a half seconds
The power of the infinitely small.
The power of presence.
With a smile in my heart, my car carries me away. I will never see him again and yet, his eyes and smile are with me for eternity.
From my light and heart to yours,
Clara J.
